Building Your Marketing Plan PART 1

BUILDING YOUR MARKETING PLAN
Your marketing plan will include a situation analysis based on internal and external factors that are likely to affect your marketing program.
The most rigorous way to have students do an environmental scan for their marketing plan is to have them add two right-hand columns to the Figure 3-2 format—the first labeled "opportunities" and the second labeled "threats." This forces students to think about implications of the trends for their business or product or service. The environmental scan can give depth to the industry analysis, competitor analysis, and customer analysis portion of "Section 4: Situation Analysis" of Appendix A.
1. To summarize information about external factors, create a table similar to Figure 3-2 and identify three trends related to each of the five forces (social, economic, technological, competitive, and regulatory) that relate to your product or service.
2. When your table is completed, describe how each of the trends represents an opportunity or a threat for your business.
Helping with Common Student Problems
As with the SWOT analysis activity for Chapter 2, students often end their analysis by simply listing the environmental trends in their environmental scan. By having students add the "opportunities" and "threats" columns described above, they are forced to try to translate the trend into what it means for their marketing plan. Sometime it suggests a specific action. At other times, it suggests the student be aware of the trend, which may lead to actions in the future.

WELCOME TO APRIL TERM

Its that time of year again, we are starting a new term.  Are you excited? Nervous?

I want to welcome my Marketing Class.  I'm excited to work with you, this is a creative topic.  So that you get to know me a little before class starts...and so that you can complete the DAY ONE SURVEY here's a little info about ME.

As you can see in the syllabus I served in the Military and like to run a tight ship...I also really enjoy watching you learn and being a part of that experience.  I ask that you always read the material and handouts, then ask for clarification and more info.  I will do everything I can bring resources to the table that will help you be successful.

If you have challenges throught the term there is a WHOLE team of people here to help you, your program director (ME)  student services, tutors.  If you need help ASK.

On a more fun note, I have two dogs...they keep me busy.  Squeak is 3 year old Jack russel and Lady Bug is a 3 year old beagle.  One runs ALOT...the other yells alot...any bets on which is which?  Lady Bug sports a fabulous Purple collar, which is the color of Royalty...and my Favorite.  I learned 2 weeks ago why Purple is the color of Royalty...remind me to tell you.  Hope you got some of the info you needed...hurry back to class!  When you finish your survey there are PRIZES!

Anyway, welcome to April term, knowledge is power...so together we shell engage our big juicy brain muscles and get STRONG!
